Bollywood Awards In New York

JUNOON, Runa Laila and Apache Indian headline a galaxy of big names scheduled to perform at the first-ever `Bollywood Awards' to be presented in New York.Besides these artistes, topline film stars are also expected to take part in the awards ceremony.

`Chalo Ishq Ladaye'
Himesh Reshamiya, music director of the Govinda-Rani Mukherjee starrer `Chalo Ishq Ladaye', is slated to record two more songs in Mid-March for the Pranlal Mehta and Vijay Productions film.

Song Recordings

The music of the film `Ab' was launched with a song recording by Bappi Lahiri. Sung by Altaf Raja, the recording was at Sunny Super Sounds.

Music director Suman Gopal recorded a song for the film `Prem Shastra' at Studio Ablaze which was sung by Asha Bhosle.

The recording of four songs of the film `Khooni Kangan' by music director S.R.Raj took place on January 29. Singers Amit Kumar, Vinod Rathod and Poornima lent their voices.

Music directors Shibu, Pintoo and Dalip Tahir recorded the music for the film `Bahke Kadam'.Singers were Sadhna Sargam, Vibha Sharma, Chandana Dixit and Babul Supriyo.

Naresh Sharma gets a break

Music director Naresh Sharma, languishing at the bottom of the music scene for quite some time now, even though extrememly talented, has finally got the long-awaited break. Bombino's have signed him on for their next project, as has Boney Kapoor.

Zee Awards
The 2nd Zee Cine Awards in the technical category were given out last month. Among the awardees were Jatin-Lalit for `Best Background Score' with `Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', Satish Gupta for `Best Song Recording', for `China Gate', and Jitendra Chaudhary for `Best Sound Recording', for `Soldier'.

Udit Narayan does not recommend

Udit Narayan's new album brings to the fore his wife Deepa's sinigng abilities. Ask the man why he has not promoted Deepa the way he has pushed son Aditya, and he replies: "Deepa is very good as a singer. But playback singing is very much technical, since you have to express someone else's feelings. She has already sung for Nepali and Bhojpuri films. But I can't recommend her to music directors, she must get songs on her own merit. She is good enough for that. Why should I spoil it all by putting in recommendations?" Well said, dear hubby!

Our PM - a lyricist
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee seems to be finding increasing favour with the music companies. Two Vajpayee albums, both of them having his poems, have already been released. On the first Parvati Khan uses her voice to give life to the PM's lines, and on the seond it is Padmaja Phenani Joglekar who does the honours

Jatin-Lalit to go Pop
One has to inform our readers about how Jatin-Lalit in a recent joint interview practically contradicted each other. Asked why they don't sing, they replied thus.

Jatin: "I can't thrust my voice on to producers. Lalit and I have been singing for children's songs as chorus artistes since `Yaadon Ki Baarat'. We have sung several songs for R.D. Burman."

Lalit: "Jatin has even sung a full song in `Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander'. But we will now be singing for our first-ever album for Polygram which will have the music of our taste."
